about

Veteran Bologna blasters REPULSIONE release 'Desecrating', a new full length collection of gore splattered, grooving grindcore and powerviolence.

On the face of it the assumption would be that they would draw heavily from bands like Sete Star Sept and Water Torture, being a guitarless line up, but REPULSIONE draw more heavily from old school grind bands in terms of style, having something of an early Carcass vibe around some of the more groove heavy tracks through to the blasting excess of Last Days Of Humanity when the snare really kicks in.

The drum sound is particularly brutal, being of the metallic clanging type. This, combined with the primarily low-pitched growls of vocalist 'Mosh', lends their sound parallels to gore or mince but without any cliche like resorting to 'oompa-beat', think more 'Reek Of Putrefaction' rather than 'Babykiller' or some contemporary equivalent. Keeping the blasts harsh and intense ties them more closely to their Powerviolence influences.

Special note has to be made of the tightness of the performance shown on this recording - REPULSIONE have a really controlled and punchy bass sound, more Fuzz than outright distortion, this makes their start-stop sections almost mechanical in their precision, some tracks becoming like a high speed Godflesh with the extremes of low pitch and incredible gating on the instruments. There is not a sound out of place - marking these guys out for their uniqueness in not just giving in to outright noise - they know that it is more effective to break it up, creating dynamics through structure rather than volume, which is at a consistently tinitus inducing pitch, as it should be on any proper grind release.

Furthering their grind legitimacy this album features art by seminal grind/punk art veteran Luis Sendon.

'Desecrating' is a mosh-heavy collection of groovy blast tracks with a unique edge to the sound deserving of a place on any grind fans turntable!
